White Spots

Cause & Treatment

What are White Spots in Garra Rufa fish?

White spot is a protozoan parasite infection caused in fresh water by lchthyopthirius species. The white spot is a cyst in which the adult develops on the host fish. This then drops off the Garra Rufa fish and eventually multiplies and bursts releasing hundreds of free swimming infective parasites. Massive infestation, particularly of the gills, leads to respiration problems in the Garra Rua fish and eventually death.

Symptoms
  • White spots (sugar grain size) on the body or fins.
  • Flicking and rubbing against objects by the fish
  • Rapid Gill movement
Influencing Factors
  • Poor water quality
  • Fluctuating water temperature

Treatment: Anti White Spots

Anti white spots destroys the free-swimming stage of the white spots life cycle. As this is the only stage of the life cycle affected by the treatment. The product remains active for several days, so ensuring the free-swimming parasites are destroyed as they emerge from the capsules. To assist rapid eradication of white spots, maintain the water temperature to 26 degrees Celsius to speed up and therefore shorten the life cycle.

Important:

It’s important to remove the fish into a holding tank for treatment as the medication can cause stain. Wait 7 days before re dosage if required. Remember to change the water before re dosage.

Remember:

The majority of Garra Rufa fish disease occurs because of poor water quality. Regularly test your water with the easy test kit to monitor the water quality. This is where the design of the water flow in your pond/pool and a good and effective filtering system is very important.
